Warning Lights

Commonly referred to as “Idiot Lights,” most vehicles made today have Sensors that monitor the vehicle. The Service Soon or Oil Change light will come on when it’s time to get your vehicle’s Oil Changed. The Throttle Body Light, which looks like a little lightning bold inside parenthesis, will light up when it’s time to have your Throttle Body cleaned.

 

They even have lights for your tires. The TMPS sensor tells you when you need to replace your Tire Sensor. The Low Pressure Light indicates that Air is low in your Tires.

Fall Automotive Challenges

 

Did you know? The Fall months are some of the most challenging for drivers and their cars. Why? After Summer, upkeep of our cars and trucks takes a back seat to going back to school, work, and life in general. It’s easy to take your car’s or truck’s performance for granted, and with the upcoming expenses of Thanksgiving and Christmas, we sometimes tempt fate. Let’s not tempt fate – instead, do these simple check-ups that will save you money and time while avoiding a horrible surprise.

Check your wipers. Wipers are often neglected, but once they’re replaced, we notice the improved vision during both day and night. Fall leaves and sticks always seem to damage our wipers. Wipers are an inexpensive upgrade to both your safety and the safety of others. This simple fix is a DIY project that could save you from an unwanted accident.

Check your battery. Make sure your battery cable ends are tight and free of corrosion. Such a simple issue caught at home or by your shop can save you the BIG headache of an unexpected breakdown. Then again, if a breakdown was expected, wouldn't you do something to make sure it didn’t happen?

Check your tires. Fall brings new roadway challenges of wet leaves on the roads. Make sure the air pressure of your tires is at the manufacturer’s specifications. Look at the wear and tread depth. Most tires today have wear bars. Lastly, check your tires for abnormal wear. Do your tires have the steel belt showing on the edges? If so, please purchase new tires as soon as possible.

Check your heating and defroster. Fall creeps up on us quickly. Make sure you take a moment to check both the heater and defroster for proper operation. Does the temperature change as you adjust the temp control? If so, GREAT! If not, this could be caused by a low coolant level. If your coolant level is low, take your vehicle to your shop and have them check for leaks. Switch your climate control from heater to defrost to make sure your hot air is coming out of the correct locations. Again, if something is not quite right with the operation of your HVAC system, take your car into your shop for a checkup of this system.

Lastly, is it time to change your oil and filter? Our suggestion as to where to take your vehicle for a complete service is to the shop that does your repairs. Why? Think of your shop like you do your doctor. Your car’s doctor is the shop that does your repair work. When you allow them to do your routine service, they become familiar with the sights and sounds of your vehicle. COVID-19 Update from Pugh's Service

Dear Customers,

Last week, we wrote updating you on the new measures we are taking to protect you and our employees from the spread of COVID-19, the Novel Coronavirus. Those new measures include wearing rubber gloves when working on or operating customer equipment.

There are other measures taken, such as sanitizing the inside of your vehicle before and after the work is completed, by wiping down the all touch surfaces (steering wheel, gearshift, and door handles).

However, with the news of the shutdown of all essential businesses, we have had to change again. All previous measures are still in place, however, our front office is now closed to all foot traffic.

As an essential business, WE ARE STILL OPEN FOR BUSINESS. If you would like to schedule an appointment for your vehicle or lawn mower, we ask that you call in with your information including an e-mail address. We need the e-mail address to send you invoices and estimates.

We are also offering FREE pick-up and drop-off to all automotive customers. This is to ensure that you do not have to leave your home any more than necessary. Once work is complete on your vehicle, we will call you with the final bill and can take your payment over the phone.

For our small engine customers, we are offering HALF-PRICED pick-up and delivery.

No matter what you think of it, the Coronavirus is impacting not just us as individuals anymore, but our economy as well.

With the knowledge that a person can be infected by this virus yet remain asymptomatic, it is more imperative than ever that we take this virus seriously. Especially since it can be lethal to the elderly and those with serious health conditions.

With this in mind, we at Pugh’s Service Automotive want to let you know that we have you and your families covered.

First, we have alerted our employees that if they or a family member is feeling symptomatic or have encountered anyone who has tested positive, they stay home. We are also disinfecting the counter and highly trafficked areas in our shop’s main showroom between customers. We have asked our employees to wear latex gloves when handling your equipment.

The employee responsible for picking-up and dropping off your vehicle will be required to wash or sanitize their hands before handling anything inside of your vehicle. They will also be required to wear latex gloves.

Checklist: Is your Car Rain-Ready? ✅✅✅

Delaware residents have been singing the familiar jingle “rain, rain, go away” for well over a week due to the overcast, rainy skies that have been plaguing the State since the beginning of February.

Thankfully, a reprieve has come, but according to Mr. Weatherman, that reprieve will be short lived. With another long wet spell heading our way, it would be beneficial for drivers to make sure their vehicles are ready go.

So, how do you get your car ready to ride in the wet weather? Surprisingly, it’s not a difficult list to check.

Check Your Tires

Given that the last time you had your tires changed was at the beginning of the winter season, if not before that, a good place to start would be to check the Tread Depth of your Tires. You do this by placing a penny between the treads of your tires. If the Tread doesn’t come to President Lincoln’s head, then you’re in need of Replacement Tires.

Check Your Brakes

Since your Brakes are responsible for bringing your vehicle to a halt in a timely manner, it is an excellent idea to have your Brake Pads checked before the rainy season gets going.

In wet weather, your Brake Pads will often squeak when you first use them. This isn’t a cause for concern unless the Squeak persists. If the sound continues after you have driven the vehicle for a bit, this could indicate that your Brake Pads are low and need to be replaced.

With so many different driving styles, it is difficult to give a range of how long you should go between Brake Replacements, which is why it recommended to have them checked every 3,000 miles or every three months. Basically, have your Mechanic check your Brakes at every Oil Change.

Turn on Your Wipers

Checking your wipers may seem like a very easy and commonplace idea, but that is exactly why your Wiper Blades can be overlooked until the moment you need them most.

If you see rain in the forecast, turn your Wiper Blades on for a quick test by using your Washer Fluid controls. If your Wipers are leaving streaks, then that could indicate a couple of things. First, they could just be dirty, in which case all you need to do is wipe them off. If that doesn’t help, then chances are your Wiper Blades are old and need to be replaced.

Now, if you go to use your Washer Fluid and the Wiper Blades don’t move at all, that could indicate a bigger issue. This could mean anything from a Bad Fuse to a Failed Wiper Motor, both of which need to be diagnosed by a professional Automotive Mechanic.

Check Your Headlights

Again, checking to make sure your Headlights Operate Properly seems like an obvious practice, but it is a step that is often overlooked.

Since it is required by law that your Headlights must be on if your Wipers are moving, then this is definitely something you want to make sure is working properly.

If you have Automatic Headlights, all you need to do is start your car and walk around front. If both lights are on, then you are all set. If you have to manually turn on your Headlights, then start your car, find the Headlight Control located on the side of your steering wheel and turn it to the “on” position.

If by some reason your Headlights do not come on, whether you have manual or automatic Headlights, you should take your car to a Mechanic to see what the problem is. Typically, the only problem is a Bad Headlight Bulb, but you could also have Burning or Loose Wires, a Bad Relay, or a Bad Headlight Switch.

Whatever the issue, make sure to have this repaired by a professional Mechanic, as replacing bulbs in some vehicles can be tricky.

Ceramic Brake Pads vs Semi Metallic? Which should you be Using?

When it comes to parts, brakes have got to be among the most important on your car. They are responsible for your ability to slow down and stop. They are an extension of your ability to react, and if they can’t perform you and your loved ones could be put in danger.

That is why it is very important to know what kind of brakes your Auto Shop uses when replacing the brakes on your car.

I’m sure you are asking “what do you mean by what kind of brakes.” We mean there are several kinds, the two most common being Ceramic and Semi Metallic.

So, which is better? Here are the pros and cons of each.

Semi Metallic Brake Pads are made with anywhere between 30-70% of metal. Because of this, and the fact that they use abrasive friction to slow your vehicle, they can cause the parts in your Brake System, like the Brake Rotors and Calipers, to wear out faster.

Semi Metallic brake pads also create a noisier ride because of the metal on metal contact between your Brake Pads and Rotors. This can bother some drivers that like a quieter ride, and it can fool others that who are used to that Squealing Sound, akin to nails on a chalkboard, that’s produced when they get too worn down.

A Plus to Semi Metallic Brake Pads is that they conduct heat very well. This can make them ideal for performance vehicles or for driving in extremely hot temperatures.

Ceramic Brake Pads are made from similar materials as those used to make ceramic pots and plates, but they are much denser and more durable. They also have copper fibers embedded within them which allows them to conduct heat better.

About 30% of all mechanics use Ceramic Brake Pads when replacing Brakes, and there are a number of reasons why.

Ceramic Brake Pads offer the quietest ride of any other type of Brake Pad. They also produce a lot less Brake Dust due to creating adherent friction as opposed to the abrasive friction that Semi Metallic Brakes use. Due to this, Ceramic Brake Pads break down slowly, lasting longer than Semi Metallic Pads.

Ceramic Brake Pads are also more reliable under a larger range of temperatures and conditions, which makes them an ideal replacement. Ceramic Brake Pads are better able to displace heat caused by friction. Less heat equals less stress on your Rotors and Calipers which will ultimately extend their life.

The one drawback to Ceramic Pads is that they tend to cost slightly more. However, given that they tend to last longer than Semi Metallic Pads, you will save more in the long run. This is because they are specifically engineered to perform under a wide range of conditions, while also providing you with a much quieter ride.

When it comes right down to it, Ceramic Pads are the best option to use when replacing the Brake Pads on your vehicle. That is unless you live in a desert or drive like a NASCAR star. However, if you drive like the average person commuting from point A to point B, you should be in great shape with a set of Ceramic Brake Pads.

Synthetic vs Conventional Oil & Which should You be Using?

Synthetic Oil vs Conventional Oil?

If you are wondering if you should switch the type of oil that you are using in your vehicle then don’t feel alone. Thousands of Automotive customers turn that question over in their heads endlessly to no avail. This is why we are here to help.

Before you decide what to do, you need to understand that Synthetic Oils are superior to Conventional Oils. They last longer and are able to withstand harsh temperatures better than Conventional Oil. This is because they are made in a lab, where the molecules are quite literally engineered to perform better.

Unfortunately, because so much time goes into making Synthetic Oils, they can cost much, much more than Conventional Oil. If you search Social Media platforms, like Facebook, I guarantee that there are those complaining about how much they just spent on their last oil change because a Synthetic, or a Synthetic Blend, Oil was used.

To put things in perspective, depending on the car and where you live, an Oil Change using Conventional Oil rarely tops $60 bucks. Oil Changes involving a Synthetic Oil can go as high as $120. To top it off, studies show that even with being able to go longer between Oil Changes when using Synthetic, customers’ pocketbooks don’t see that big of a difference.

So, this brings us back to should you be using Synthetic Oil during your vehicle’s Oil Changes? More likely than not, the answer is no.

If you change your oil regularly, the recommended interval is every 3 months or 3,000 miles, then you don’t need to use Synthetic Oil. If you live in a climate where you could regularly fry an egg on the road, or where your pipes bursting from freezing temperatures is a regular occurrence, then you could benefit from Synthetic Oil Changes. If not, then Conventional Oil is perfectly fine.

The only time to disregard your punctuality or climate, would be if your owner’s manual specifically says otherwise. If your owner’s manual requires that you use Full Synthetic Oil, or a Synthetic Blend, then that is what you need to use. Otherwise, save your money, and stick with Conventional.

Regardless of whether you use Synthetic or Conventional Oil, coming in for regular Oil Changes at 3,000 mile or 3-month intervals is alwaysa good practice. Not only does it ensure you’re running fresh oil in your engine, but it allows your Mechanic to keep a close eye by doing regular courtesy inspections.

Why is my Car's Heater not Working?

Nothing is worse than running out to your car on a bitter cold morning, turning the key, and switching on the heat, only to find that your car’s heater doesn’t want to come on… or worse, the heater only blows cold air.

During the cold commute to work you begin Googling “Auto Mechanics near me,” and calling shops for possible causes and estimates for repair. Why Should I Get an Oil Change?

Despite its importance to your vehicle’s overall wellbeing, people oftentimes either put off, forget, or completely forego the Regular Maintenance that their Car needs to ensure it’s continually running smoothly.

I understand that it can be easy to shrug off the Change Oil or Service Now Light in your vehicle, but the harsh reality is that you shouldn’t. It may cost money, it may be inconvenient, but the fact of the matter is that if you don’t bring your car in for Oil Changes once every 3,000 miles, you could end up with no car at all.

You see, your Vehicle needs Oil to function properly. Should I Warm My Car Up in the Winter?

Ever look outside your window to see your car covered in frost and think to yourself I really don’t feel like going out there to get my car ready to go to work?

I’ve got news for you. As much as you don’t like going out there to warm it up, scrape off your windows, or clean off last night’s snow, your car hates it when you start it up and speed off on your morning commute without letting it warm up.

I realize this flies in the face of what you may have been told, but think about it. Just like you, your car needs time to warm up before you just throw it in gear and put it through the rigors of highway traffic.

During the winter, when your car sits overnight, the Engine Oil becomes cold and sinks to the bottom of your vehicle’s Engine. Then, as it sits even longer, it loses its viscosity, which is what helps it move quickly and easily to all the proper parts of your engine. If not given time to warm up, the oil will have a much harder time making its way through your engine, which means all the moving parts that need lubrication aren’t getting it the way they need to.  The viscosity isn’t restored until the Engine Oil warms up to the proper point. 

Many advice blogs will tell you that your engine only needs 30 seconds to warm up; however, as noted above, that doesn’t take into account the currently cold, sludge-like Engine Oil that still needs time to heat back up. Ask any scientist— it takes far more time and energy to heat something up than it does to cool it down.

Another thing that is said in those blogs, which is still true but often ignored, is if you do wait 30-60 seconds for the Engine to warm, it’s ok to drive as long as you drive easily. The reason for that little disclaimer is because even they know that the Engine Oil hasn’t fully warmed up, even if the engine has. Also, if you are like me, you’ve waited until the last second and don’t have time to take it easy with the car. So instead you jump in, start the car, and it’s off to the races.

Doing this to your car repeatedly will shorten the life of your engine and could wind up resulting in costly repairs. Another reason to let your car warm up first before driving it is to let your heater and defrosters kick into gear. By doing this, you might just find that you don’t have to scrape off your windows, freezing your tushy off in the process. How to Get your Car ready for Winter

Winter has a nasty habit of wreaking havoc on our daily lives, especially if you are one of many who has to leave your vehicle out in the cold or make a commute to work. From causing dead batteries to body damage, due to the unfortunate slip on some black ice, winter is more foe than friend to the average Joe.

Get your Car ready for Holiday Road Trips with Pugh's Service Automotive's SHOT Inspection!

Don’t look now, but with holidays fast approaching, that means traveling…. Lots and lots of traveling. Whether it be through the skies, on the road, or both, you will need to make sure that your car is in tip-top shape to make the trip. This way you can make it to Grandma’s house safely and without incident.   

You might be wondering what exactly should be checked on your car before a long trip. The answer is everything. This can be done with a free, complimentary Sensory Inspection at Pugh’s Service Automotive, otherwise known as our SHOT (Sight, Hearing, Odor, and Touch) Inspection. In most cases, this inspection is just what you need to ensure safe travels to family and friends for the holidays.

First, we will use our sense of Sight to take a good look Under the Hood and at the Underbody. We will look for any leaks, which is straightforward, as your car should be dry. If a Fluid Leak is spotted, we will note what color it is along with the area it is found in. This will tell us which part is the culprit for the Leak, and then we will give you a call with an estimate to repair the problem. If you are about to embark on a longer road trip, it is best to let a professional Auto Repair Shop repair the issue before you leave.

Second, we will use our sense of hearing on a Test Drive to listen out any potential negative sounds. Hearing a suspicious sound can often point us in the direction of the true problem so that we can use our senses of Sight and Touch to Inspect even deeper.

 For example, Failing Brake Pads can be heard before serious damage occurs. Wheel Bearings also will present with a Roaring Sound if they are going bad. Squeaking or other Noises Under the Hood could indicate worn parts such as Belts and Pulleys. If this is the case, then none of these things should be neglected before you begin your trip, as they can cause serious damage if you were to continue to stress them.

Next, we use our sense of Smell to detect any unwanted Odors during the Test Drive and throughout the Inspection. A very common smell is one of Burning outside of the Car, which can indicate Worn Down Brake Pads. A Burning Rubber Smell can indicate Bad Hoses or Worn Belts. Other Odors to beware of are a Sweet, Syrupy Smell and Hot Oil Smell. If either are accompanied by Leaks seen under the car then you could be dealing with a Leaking Valve Cover or Radiator.

Pugh’s Service Automotive will use our senses of sight and touch to determine the culprits, so that we can provide you with an Accurate Estimate of Repair. This way, you don’t overspend, and you have safe and reliable transportation for your road trip.

Last, but certainly not least, we will use our sense of touch to feel for Soft and Squishy Hoses, Cracked or Torn Belts, and much more.

Why is My Car Running Hot?

Have you ever seen the Temperature Gauge in your car begin to rise and wondered why? Your Temperature Gauge normally runs to the cool side, but on this day, it was more to the center of the gauge. Now you are wondering whether you should be concerned.

Overheating is no small issue, so count yourself fortunate you saw the needle’s position on the gauge. This is a clear Warning that your car’s Engine is running Hotter than normal. Below, we provided a couple of common causes of Overheating.

Check Your Engine Fluids

Once your engine has cooled down, check your fluids. You will want to closely focus on the level of the Antifreeze and Engine Oil. Pay attention to both the Level and Condition of each as both aspects could cause the Overheating of your Engine.

The Antifreeze has a Reservoir with level lines that can normally be viewed without removing anything. Your Engine Oil Dipstick should also have clearly marked level lines. Also, if you are able, remove the Radiator Cap and make sure the Radiator is full to the top with Antifreeze.

Low Antifreeze or Low Engine Oil could be an indicator of a leak. In most cases leaks are repaired by professionals such as Pugh’s Service Automotive.

Check Front of Radiator for Debris

After you have checked the fluids and determined they are okay, then look in the front of the Radiator. What you are inspecting the area for is any trash or debris. Debris in the front of your Radiator restricts Air flow to the Cooling System. Proper Air Flow is vital to Engine Temperature, and if it is restricted, then it will cause your Engine to run hot.

The number of plastic bags and cardboard that can get caught between the Grill and Radiator is amazing. These obstructions cut down the amount of fresh air that passes over the Radiator Cooling Fins and is often a reason that your radiator cannot operate at its best.

Less Obvious Causes

If the above checks provided no answers, then a few other causes could include a Faulty Thermostat, Electric Cooling Fan, and a Bad Water Pump. There a host more parts that could cause your Engine to run hot, but all would require further diagnostics and repair by a professional Automotive Repair Shop.

Do not make the mistake of ignoring this issue. Your Temperature Gauge indicating that your Engine is overheating can quickly turn serious and very costly if ignored. Why? Overheating left unattended could lead to Blown Head Gaskets or even Engine Replacements. Both are costly repairs that can be avoided if you are sensitive to where your Temperature Gauge points.

5 Causes of Air Flow Problems in your Car's Venting System

You jump in your car on a 100-degree day. You quickly reach for your A/C controls, and to your dismay no air comes through the vents once you turn them on!

The scenario above can be applied during the wintertime as well, when it comes to heating, but either way, there is nothing worse than the HVAC vents of your car not operating properly. So naturally, your first question is what could be causing this issue?

With that in mind, here are a few ways to determine what is causing your vehicle’s vents to not produce any air.

Does the Blower Fan Engage?

In the event that your Fan does not engage, then the fuse location portion of your owner’s manual will help you find the fuse for HVAC/Climate Control or Fan. Most Fuses today are clear, which can make determining a Blown HVAC Fuse easy due to its visibility.

The Fan Controller/Switch/Motor

In addition to a Blown Fuse, a Faulty Fan Controller, Fan Switch, or Fan Motor could cause the sudden lack of air coming through your vehicle’s vents. This could be a good possible cause if your fan is not operating, but the fuses are in good condition.

If this is the case, it is best to bring your vehicle to a Service Center such as Pugh’s Service for a proper diagnosis. The above parts can be costly and it’s best to have the proper tests performed so that the correct parts can be replaced.

A Clogged Cabin Air Filter

If your fan is working but limited air is coming out of your vents, then you may be looking at a Clogged Cabin Air Filter.

Most cars today have a Cabin Air Filter, which can be found by visiting your vehicle’s Owner’s Manual. Due to the old adage, ‘out of sight, out of mind’, these filters oftentimes experience a lot of neglect.

At Pugh’s Service we provide you with a copy of your vehicle’s maintenance, or K plan/schedule. These plans have intervals of when to replace or clean many items on your vehicle, including a Cabin Air Filter. Neglecting your Cabin Air Filter is a common cause when issues arise within your vehicle’s Vent System.

Check for Critters & Debris

Critters love to make their homes in our cars and trucks. Rodents, in particular, are huge fans of our vehicles, setting up shop in many different areas, vents included.

Get True "Service" with your next Service

When people take their car in for a Service, many shops for speed and convenience, will only change the Oil and Oil Filter. This may be better for your daily planning, but is really what is best for your vehicle? Is it enough?

The answer is an unequivocal NO.

In truth, just changing the Oil and Oil Filter is better than doing nothing, but it isn’t even close to what your car needs. So, what does your car need when you bring it in for a Service?

The answer is simple. Your car needs to be fully checked over. At Pugh’s Service Automotive, we don’t just change your oil and filter. During a Service, we will look at all the other fluids, including Transmission Fluid, Anti-Freeze, Washer Fluid, Power Steering Fluid, and Brake Fluid. If any of those need topping off, we will re-fill them to the proper levels.

In addition to checking your vehicle’s fluids, we also check the condition of your vehicle’s Belts and Hoses, the Tire Inflation and Wear, as well as the condition of your Windshield Wiper Blades. We also perform a courtesy 30-Point Inspection that is completely free of charge.

So, what’s in a 30-Point Inspection?

A 30-Point Inspection is all the items listed above, including the inspection of your Steering, Suspension, Drive, Exhaust, Computer, Lighting, and Braking Systems.

In addition to the 30-Point Inspection, Pugh’s Service Automotive will provide a print-out of your vehicle’s Maintenance Schedule, called a K Plan. The “K” in K Plan stands for 1000, because your plan is broken into 1k mile intervals and each vehicle has a specific Maintenance Plan.

This plan can be found in your owner’s manual and is very important. Doing the maintenance prescribed by your manufacturer when directed is a must and will save you money.

Years ago, Fram Oil Filter Company had a commercial that featured a shop owner performing a vehicle service. His message was to those who didn’t properly maintain their vehicles. How to Find Your College Freshman a Trustworthy Automotive Repair Shop

It’s almost that time of year again! Time for parents to see their kids off to college!

If you are one of these parents, a parent who is sending away a newly minted Freshman to an out of state school, you are likely going out of your mind trying to prepare.

One way to prepare you and your child is to scout the area for Trustworthy, Reputable, and Skillful Automotive Mechanics. Should something happen to your kid while they’re gone, you want to make sure they aren’t taken advantage of.

As we all know, vehicle repairs can be very expensive; add to that the cost of tuition, and your anxiety level goes through the roof.

While we can’t help with paying your college tuition expenses, we can provide some helpful tips to finding trustworthy Automotive Repair Shops… And hopefully reduce your stress!

If there is one thing we can all agree on, going to an Automotive Dealer is always more expensive than going to a local shop. Since every dollar counts, choosing the right shop is paramount to saving your money.

First and foremost, you should start looking for an automotive repair shop early. The earlier you start researching Automotive Shops near your child’s college, the more prepared you can be when you leave your kid for the next few months.

Below is a list of what to look for from the car repair center that will be watching over your child’s safety and your wallet over the next four years and perhaps beyond.

     1)      Local Reputation: I don’t mean look on social media for Google/Yelp Ratings, though those can help, but TALK to real folks that live and work in the area. If you’re out eating, shopping or whatever you are doing, ask questions.

     2)      Take Notes:  Take down the addresses and phone numbers of Automotive Shops that are local to the area of your child’s college. This way, you can visit some when you are in town visiting their college, too.  

  

     3)      Schedule a Service: Once you narrow down your list, make an appointment to get a feel for the staff. While you’re there, take notice of certain things. For instance, what do they offer on a Service? Do they have a Waiting Area? Do they Offer Shuttle Services? Will they pick you up when your vehicle is complete? These are all services that we at Pugh’s Service Automotive have offered for years, at NO CHARGE!

     4)      Going Above and Beyond: When changing your oil and filter will they do additional checks? Here at Pugh’s Service we perform a Free 30-Point Inspection on every car, regardless of the reason of the visit.

  

     5)      Get to Know the Owner: Ask many questions, like “Do you have kids in college?” “Will you call me with an estimate whenever work needs to be done?” “Can you prioritize the repairs, I’m on a budget, my kid’s in college?” Having an owner that understands your position of value and safety for your child is HUGE!

     6)      Are They ASE Certified?: This is a tough one. I know some amazing technicians that are not ASE and some techs can pass a test but in practice couldn’t repair the little red wagon, which goes back to #1 on the list. Local Reputation.
